Yagi-logper is a command line application. It supports the NEC2 two-element design style as
defined in IEC standard 61298-1.
It is designed to accept a string that describes the 2 elements of the antenna. This
string is composed of numbers and strings separated by the comma character.
Numbers are in the range from 0 to 100. The Yagi-logper app has a current mode
implementation, so the impedance is measured in ohms, while the amplitude is measured
in dBm or dBv. It is expected that normal polarisation is used, both for reception and
transmission.
If the application is given a string with too many elements (more than 2), the first
two elements are assumed to be a half-wave dipole. If the last element is a null,
then the last element is assumed to be a half-wave dipole or a loop.
The test is based on standard ground conductors which is shown as the reference
impedance of the two elements.
The reference impedance is calculated during test-initiation and it is not influenced
by the test conditions. This impedance can be determined according to standard JIS
IEC-268, and it is assumed that the IEC-268 reference impedance is taken at 100
degrees and 20mW source power.
The above impedance is sent to the reference and all other elements are scaled by
an exponential factor which can be set as the test result. This allows for the whole
bandwidth of antennas to be investigated when possible.
The application supports input power in decibels relative to the reference impedance,
called input power. It is assumed that the test is conducted at a distance of 1 metre
from the antenna.
The amplitude is either given in decibels relative to the reference impedance and in
dBm or in dBv. The input power for reception can be given in dBm or in dBv.
When no power is given, the total power is calculated.
The input power is determined by the application. The user controls the start and end
frequency of the test.
If the reference impedance is given, the spacing between elements is calculated. If
the spacing is given, then the minimum spacing is automatically calculated to make
the spacing equal to the spacing between elements.
The spacing can be read from a ANSI S0-4 document or any standard.
